During the test, the igus gantry is used to move the Kolver screw gripper to various positions. The screw gripper then performs a series of tasks, including gripping, turning, and positioning screws.

The main purpose of this test is to verify compliance with the cycle time. The cycle time refers to the time needed to complete a full cycle of tasks. In this case, the cycle includes moving the screw gripper to a screw, gripping the screw, turning and positioning the screw, and finally returning the screw gripper to its starting position.

The video shows how the igus gantry and the Kolver screw gripper work together to perform these tasks with impressive precision and speed. It becomes clear that both devices are capable of adhering to the specified cycle time, which underscores their efficiency and performance.

Tooldrives spindle system - suitable for drilling, screwing, deburring

In this customer test, 16 screws had to be unscrewed from the box for the repair of soundbars and screwed back in after the repair. In order to be able to offer our customer a solution, we had to improvise in some places.

To begin with, a suitable gantry robot was selected. To make the screwing process possible, we received a Cobot spindle system from the company Tooldrives, which can be equipped with various attachments. To hold the screws securely, a ring magnet was attached to the bit attachment, which permanently megnetizes the bit. The screw is then rotated into a fixture where it can be picked up again after repair.

The ToolDrives IHS-ADU system (Intelligent High Speed Automatic Drilling Unit) takes 17 seconds to drill 100 holes with a diameter of 6 mm in a coated composite wood panel 6 mm deep. The integrated suction system ensures a clean working environment and drill holes without residual chips.

In this application, small plastic components in two different versions were to be sorted into a tray. For this purpose, a room gantry with the dimensions 800x800x500 mm and a repeat accuracy of 0.8 mm was equipped with two different grippers. For the smaller components, an electric 2-finger parallel gripper with a max. gripping force of 40 N was sufficient. Gripping force of 40 N was sufficient. In this application, a portal robot was successfully combined with a plasma cutter. Plasma, an electrically conductive gas, burns at about 30,000 degrees and processes workpieces with the resulting arc. Despite these challenging conditions, the portal robot guides the cutter smoothly over the workpiece and shapes it precisely as desired.

The igus portal robot, the largest model of the manufacturer with dimensions of 2000x2000x1000 mm, offers a variety of customization options. It can be equipped with various end effectors, camera systems, and accessories. It is available in a basic version without control as well as in three other variants with control.
