This video presents an advanced pick-and-place system that precisely handles and positions lids. The system uses an ifm sensor and a camera for object recognition to identify the lids and determine their position. The igus ReBeL 6DOF (six degrees of freedom) robot arm is equipped with a suction gripper that grips the lids securely and places them in the desired position.

The integration of the ifm sensor enables seamless communication with the software interface, which ensures efficient control of the entire process. The software provides an intuitive user interface and allows users to precisely control the robotic arm and suction gripper to achieve optimal pick-and-place performance.

The combination of the ifm sensor, the camera and the igus ReBeL 6DOF robotic arm provides a powerful solution for automated pick-and-place tasks. This system is ideal for applications where speed, accuracy and reliability are critical.

In the video, we see an igus ReBeL Cobot positioned in the Customer Testing Area at igus inc. and carrying out a customer test. The cobot, a collaborative robot that can work alongside humans, is equipped with a Schmalz suction cup.

The test consists of stacking lids from buckets used in the food industry. The cobot uses the Schmalz suction cup to pick up the lids by suction and then stacks them precisely. In this particular customer application, the task was to transport snail shells to various positions within a cycle time defined by the customer. The main challenge was selecting an appropriate end effector, as the snail shells needed to remain undamaged throughout the process.

After careful consideration and analysis of the requirements, the decision was made to use a SoftGripper. This type of gripper is characterized by its flexibility and adaptability, allowing it to conform to the shape of the delicate snail shells. This not only ensures safe transportation but also minimizes the risk of damage.

The choice of the SoftGripper was crucial for the success of the application, as conventional grippers, due to their rigid structure, would not have been able to handle the fragile snail shells without causing damage. By using the SoftGripper, the required cycle time could be met while preserving the integrity of the snail shells.
